DECEASED TRANSPORT SERVICE.
When a loved one passes away, the service for transferring remains to a location different from the place of death is one of the most requested by family members, as in most cases they want to carry out the burial service in the city of the deceased. Although this is one of the most requested services, it is not necessarily easy to carry out, as certain requirements must be met in accordance with Decree 2263/1974.
The transfer of remains can only be carried out in one way in Spanish territory; this service cannot be conducted using a non-approved vehicle for the transportation of corpses. Therefore, only hearses from funeral homes (funeral parlors) can provide this service, and we have it available. This ensures that the body of the deceased will arrive at the desired location for the family in the best sanitary conditions.
The aforementioned decree emphasizes two different situations for the transfer of a deceased body; these two situations depend on the distance to be covered and the places of origin and destination.
When it comes to the transfer of a body within the same autonomous community, it is not a big problem, as only the death certificate is required to take the deceased to the location desired by the family. However, it is necessary to wait at least a full day before burying the remains.
Regarding the transfer of remains between two autonomous communities, two certificates are required: one to be presented to the Civil Registry and another to be presented to the health authority of the community of origin to authorize the removal of the body. Finally, we must not forget the existence of a contract signed by both parties that clearly specifies the destination and the condition of the deceased body.
In both the first and second cases, we, the funeral home, take care of everything, including the explicit authorization that we must provide. This authorization serves to justify that the body meets the requirements for the transfer.
On the other hand, there are no rules or regulations for transporting the ashes of a deceased person. They can be carried by any means of transportation, stored in a container prepared for this purpose, and always with the documentation on hand, especially the death certificate.
